The current version of this SUV is getting close to the end of the production cycle. So far, we have seen three generations of it and the current one has been around since 2011. Latest reports suggest the new version is about to come soon and that the 2020 Dodge Durango could easily be the last year model of the current generation.
The redesign is about to come with some significant changes, according to the rumors. However, we won’t speculate too much about it in this article. Since this will be the last production year, don’t count on any significant change. Also, it should come sometime late in the year.
- Powerful engines
- Three spacious rows of seats
- Easy loads and unloads
- Cheap-looking interior
- Uninspiring ride quality
- Below-average fuel economy
Despite the fact that the last time we saw bigger styling changes were several years ago, the current model still looks quite attractive. It comes in a typical Dodge manner, with Ram’s famous crosshair grille layout and angular, robust overall shape.
However, aesthetics have never been an important issue of this crossover. Most drivers would care more about the model’s outdated platform, which comes from Mercedes-Benz and dates from the early 2000s. Therefore, the 2020 Dodge Durango won’t be as agile as its other models in the segment, such as Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Subaru Ascent etc.
The interior design is probably the weakest point of this SUV. Typically for Dodge models from several years ago, its dashboard looks blend and feels cheap. Also, aesthetics are pretty outdated, especially the center stack, steering wheel, and instrument cluster.
Still, with have to say that the cabin is quite spacious and functional. The 2020 Dodge Durango will continue to deliver the same level of comfort. First of all, you can count on plenty of legroom. Even the third row is spacious enough to accommodate adults. The cargo area is also pretty big.
More importantly, the tailgate is big and almost rectangular, so you can load and unload a bigger object without bigger problems as well.
The 2020 Dodge Durango will continue with three familiar engines in the offer. Base models will feature a 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers around 290 horsepower. An optional 5.7-liter V8 with 360 horsepower seems like a perfect measure for this occasion.
Still, if you need even more power, there is a hi-performance version, which comes with a large 6.4-liter V8 engine. This unit features a max output of 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All engines come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission.
2020 Dodge Durango Release Date and Price
Given that the 2020 Dodge Durango will probably be the last year model of the current generation, it will come without bigger changes. Therefore, we expect to see it on the market sometime late in the year, without bigger changes in price. The current model starts at around $30,000.
