Fresh models are coming to the market, so the old ones need to updates. Those would be words to describe the current situation with this mid-size pickup truck. The current generation has been around since 2012, which seems like a lot of time, even for this segment. Therefore, the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado is about to receive an update. At this point, we know that some styling revisions are about to come, but we could see novelties in other aspects as well. On the other side, the engine lineup is about to remain the same.
- Powerful engine options
- Class-leading towing capacity
- Excellent fuel economy with a diesel
- Low starting price
- Tight cabin
- Cargo bed could be more functional
When it comes to the exterior design, we count on a couple of interesting novelties. Of course, the focus will be on the front end, which is about to come with a new grille and bumper, according to the latest reports. We are about to see a grille pattern that closely resembles the new Silverado models, while a new ZR2 version is also on its way.
This is a hi-performance off-road model, which comes with several upgrades like new suspension setup, higher ground clearance, skid plates and more. Also, there is a couple of distinctive details, including some pretty exclusive color options.
On the other side, we probably won’t see bigger changes on the inside. Despite that some younger rivals like Jeep Gladiator look more upscale on the inside, the current cabin design does the job pretty well, as it is quite functional.
Also, there is a nice list of standard features, including lots of tech goodies. The thing we don’t like about this truck is that rear seats are a little bit tight, even in a crew cab model. Still, that can’t be fixed before the complete overhaul.
The engines have always been the best thing about this truck. So, we don’t expect to see any change in this aspect. Base models will continue with a familiar 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which is good for about 200 horsepower. An optional 3.6-liter V6 seems like a much better choice, as it delivers 308 horsepower.
Finally, there is an efficient 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which delivers around 180 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. This oil-burner is great in many ways. First of all, you can count on the class-leading towing capacity that goes up to 7.700 pounds. Also, the fuel economy is great, as the engine returns around 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
