The current generation of the compact crossover has been around since 2016, so it’s no wonder that many reports are suggesting updates for the 2021 Jeep Compass. We are still waiting to hear something from the officials, but given the model’s age, this sounds like a certain thing.
According to rumors, this should be a typical mid-cycle update, with a couple of visual upgrades. However, some reports also suggest a possibility to see a diesel version introduced, though not in North America but rather in Europe only. Other than that, we also count on upgrades in terms of new features.
- Great off-road capabilities
- Intuitive infotainment system
- Upscale interior
- Uninspiring engine
- Small cargo area
- Low predicted reliability ratings
One of the biggest novelties for the 2021 Jeep Compass could be the addition of a new engine. According to some reports, we could easily see a version with Mercedes-Benz’s engine in the offer. It is a familiar 2.0-liter turbodiesel with around 192 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
This engine would definitely bring a lot of benefits, particularly in terms of fuel economy and towing capacity. Unfortunately, the new version would be offered in Europe only. The North American model will continue with a well-known 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline unit, which is good for about 180 horsepower.
Considering that this is going to be a mid-cycle update, we could see visual changes as well. At this point, details are still unavailable, but we may presume certain tweaks to the front end.
Though we have to say that the current model already looks pretty good. It resembles the flagship Grand Cherokee a lot and there’s no way that the company’s designers would go too far from that. In terms of mechanics, things are about to remain the same.
We don’t expect any particular changes when it comes to interior design. The current model already features a pretty nice cabin. It’s not exactly the Mazda CX-5 level of quality, but the general impression is quite good. Materials are fine, as well as aesthetics.
Also, we like the infotainment system, which is intuitive and features pretty much all modern essentials. The thing we don’t like is that cargo volume is among the smallest in the class. Still, the whole cabin is quite boxy, which makes the crossover quite functional. Also, the passenger’s seat folds down as well.
2021 Jeep Compass Release Date and Price
The 2021 Jeep Compass update is just a rumor at the moment and we are still waiting to hear something from the officials. If it happens, we may presume that the new model will arrive a little bit earlier than usual. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect bigger changes compared to the current model, which starts at around $22,000.
