Twelve years ago, Toyota presented a concept truck called A-Bat. The idea was to introduce a model that could be a great alternative to traditional pickups. The concept features a pretty unusual design, which aimed to attract younger generations and those who don’t necessarily need spectacular towing capabilities, but rather something more comfortable, with a decent level of practicality. Also, it featured a hybrid powertrain, so we could say it has everything that one modern truck needs. Many years later, the Japanese manufacturer is once again considering the production of something similar. Therefore, the 2021 Toyota A-Bat Concept has been rumored.
- Attractive design
- Comfortable ride
- Spacious and upscale cabin
- Efficient hybrid powertrain
- Less capable that BoF trucks
- Still just a rumor
Pickup trucks are hugely popular these days and it looks like Toyota is planning to expand its lineup. This time, we would see something a little bit conventional, something that would go in the same direction as the 2007 A-Bat Concept.
Once again, we would see a concept version first, probably in the next year as the 2021 Toyota A-Bat Concept. The new concept will once again come with funky styling in order to attract a wider range of buyers. Therefore, a unibody platform will be one of the most interesting features about this truck. The Honda Ridgeline is currently the only pickup on the market with such design, but a couple of new models are about to come in the near future as well.
Thanks to a unibody platform, the new 2021 Toyota A-Bat Concept will feature a much higher level of comfort compared to traditional body-on-frame trucks, such as Tacoma, for example. That will be the main advantage, along with a spacious and comfortable cabin, which won’t feature such a rugged layout, as it is the case with traditional pickup truck models.
We presume that the new 2021 Toyota A-Bat Concept will come in the same manner as the original concept, when it comes to powertrain. That would mean a hybrid powertrain. In this case, we will probably see the same system that powers the RAV4, which is based on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and which delivers around 220 horsepower. A more powerful version is also available. To remind you, the new Highlander is coming, with a 240-hp hybrid system.
2021 Toyota A-Bat Concept Release Date and Price
The new pickup is expected to come in a form of concept first. That could happen already in the next year. Soon after, it should enter serial production. If that happens, we presume that base models would go around $30,000.
