The next year will definitely be very interesting for truck lovers, as the super reliable 2021 Toyota Tundra is about to come with loads of novelties. First time since 2007, we will see major changes on this, now, outdated model, which still makes pretty good sales numbers, despite all drawbacks. There is a lot of interesting novelties to come. Some of the highlights are new hybrid powertrain, new rear suspension, as well as a new styling. The testing model has been on the road for some time and we could see a premiere already in early 2020.
- Efficient and powerful hybrid powertrain
- Traditionally unparalleled reliability
- Spacious cabin
- Loads of new tech features
- Tough competition
- More expensive than U.S. rivals
As we’ve just mentioned, the testing model has been spotted. It still wears a complete camouflage, which indicates we are about to see a completely new aesthetics. We presume that the Japanese manufacturer will carry on with its conventional aesthetics approach and that there won’t be surprises in terms of the overall styling.
Also, we expect that the company will bring back single-row, Regular Cab version. Big changes are expected in terms of mechanics as well. One of the most interesting details that we’ve spotted on the testing model is that Toyota completely hides rear suspension. Latest reports suggest that the solid axle will remain, though that the new model will feature air suspension, which will significantly improve both comfort and performances. A major weight reduction is another big thing we expect from the 2021 Toyota Tundra.
Along with the poor fuel economy, the interior design is probably the weakest point of the current model. Although very spacious, the current model isn’t particularly attractive from the inside. Also, it lacks some of the tech essentials.
These things will change with the 2021 Toyota Tundra, as we are about to see a completely new interior layout, including a far more attractive dashboard design. Of course, we are about to see new tech goodies as well, including a new infotainment system with smartphone integration and all other goodies.
This is definitely the most important novelty for the 2021 Toyota Tundra. Once again, the Japanese manufacturer will be a pioneer, as we are about to see a hybrid powertrain in a truck for the first time. Of course, the new Ram 1500 already features an eTorque system. Still, we can’t say that is a genuine hybrid system, but rather just a booster. Latest reports are suggesting that the new powertrain will be similar to a system that powers the Lexus LS Hybrid Sedan.
This sedan delivers around 355 horsepower. The new truck will go much further. It will feature significantly more powerful electric motors, so a max output will probably be around 450 horsepower. There’s no need to talk about how this system will be significantly more efficient compared to current, extremely thirsty V8 engines.
2021 Toyota Tundra Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2021 Toyota Tundra sometime in the next year. Considering that the Japanese manufacturer will probably bring back a single row cab design, the starting price will probably be lower compared to the current model, which starts at around $30,000.
